TOP 5 MOVIES- From every year. 1970-1999

I did this on another site, and it was tough as hell! Only "real movie buffs" can do this [Big Grin]

It's not about naming "the best" movies of any given year, (or what the movie snobs will tell you were the best movies that year), but your personal favourites. And as you can see from my "questionable" selection, im not a movie snob [Smile]

There's no order in the top fives. Just your five favourite movies of that year. It's not easy. And of course the list could change, since I have yet to watch every movie ever made.

I excluded Euro and Asian cinema, those are a world of their own, and would have made the task even harder.

Loved the list JayLee. I have not watched enough 1970's movies to make up a big list like that. You named a lot of my faves from the 80's and 90's though, and even the ones I have seen from the 70's that I really liked.

Awesome lists Jay Lee! Most of your picks from all of the 90's years are stellar (so many of my all-time faves are from this decade). I'm surprised that you don't have Contact on there though, considering you are a huge Sci-Fi fan like me.

Lot of awesome choices but a small part of me died when I didn't see Pulp Fiction there.

I might have to do my own list sometime soon. Looks like it would take some time if one wants to do it properly.

I like Back To The Future, but it's not an all time fave... sorry jdocster [Smile]

80'sRocked... There's ONE reason why Contact isn't on there.... Matthew McConaughey... I just can't stomach that guy! I don't mind him in Dazed, cuz he was new, and was suppose to be sort of a douche, so it worked. But after that, he just annoyed me to no end... [Smile]

Sam... not a QT fan by any means, hence no Pulp... sorry [Smile]

Kash... Never a Matrix fan. If I wanna see Kung Fu or crazy gunplay action, I watch Hong Kong movies. I think you do too [Smile] And Top Gun???? Well, it's no secret that my deep seeded hatred for The Cruiser burns with the fire of a thousand suns, so no Top Gun. As you can see, I listed the "Real" 80's fighter pilot flick instead... [Smile]

Yes, it was really hard and somewhat time consuming. But also fun.

I couldn't do a list like this for the 2000's, there aren't enough movies I like from this sad and soon forgotten era of cinema. Maybe the 2010's will be better, although I doubt it.

I guess I could have included the 60's as well, lot of faves from that era too. But I doubt I could have picked 5 for each year.

To me, these three decades represent the true golden era of American Cinema. And im still discovering hidden treasures, which keeps me going.

Thanks for the replies.

Would love to see your lists!

kash... lot of good ones. See you included some asian flicks as well [Smile] I almost did too, but with both euro and asian cinema, it would have been to hard for me, only to pick five for each year!

My asian movie collection actually supersedes my Hollywood movies! too many to choose from [Smile]

Two of the worst (IMO) Bond flicks were the highest grossing movies of their respective years... weird [Smile] But I guess Connery's comeback in Diamonds, and in Moonraker's case, the Sci Fi craze of the late 70's made that happen!

Have you seen PREHISTORIC WOMEN aka SLAVE GIRLS from '67...? Another cheesefest, but damn it's hilarious!
