It was on November 10, 1969 that television as we know it was changed fundamentally. I myself was deeply educated watching it throughout the 80s. Who else here was a frequent watcher over the years? (if you are from another country, watching a version shown in that country would count as well)

I remember watching it as a child but was always creeped out by Big Bird,just don't know what it was that did it.

I watched all the time when I was a kid. Coincedentally, I just watched the 1,2,3,4,5, Pointer Sisters clip last night on youtube for the first time in years last night!

Speaking of "Sesame Street", has anybody viewed the film "Sesame Street Presents Follow That Bird"? I watched it on video when I was in primary school and one scene that I can remember is Bert and Ernie flying upside down in their plane to Bert's horror while an unconcerned Ernie sings "In An Upside Down World."

I loved watching Sesame Street as a kid and thankfully was able to introduce it to my son about a year ago (he's now 3 and still a fan). On his 3rd birthday, my wife, who is a grahpic designer and very artistic, basically re-created the set of Seasme Street for his party...all out of cardboard and wood...looked amazing. Wish I could share pics, but can't seem to figure out how to do this with my own personal pictures...I can get the URL from pics already on the net? Anyway...happy birthday guys...glad to see you're still hangin around!

I really loved Sesame St as a kid and it will always hold a special place in my heart. But I don't like Elmo!
I loved it so much that when I was 4 or 5, my parents had to teach me to say the letter "r" with an Aussie accent, I was picking up the American and really giving it a rounded "rrr" sound - like I would say "lettr" instead of "lettah" as is our accent here.
I also really loved the book "The monster at the end of this book". Does anyone else remember that one? It had Grover (my favorite) begging for you to not turn each page because you're getting closer to the monster at the end of the book! Also love Sherlock Hemlock, Guy Smiley, the "yip yip" aliens, Mr Hooper, Maria, the confirmation of Snuffy's existence, and lots more...

Stitch, I bought Monster at the End of this Book a few years ago for my classroom. It's such a cute book!
I was a HUGE Sesame Street fan back in the day. I loved it. My favorites were always Oscar, Grover, Snuffalufagus (sp?), Cookie Monster and Ernie. I loved Ernie. I never did like that Elmo either, LOL.

Elmo was fine as he was first introduced, a supporting character with a reasonable personality for the show. I don't think he's really meant to carry it, especially after Big Bird's handled that so ably for so long.
It's always been good how the supporting characters are just as entertaining as the main ones. I'll admit some of my favorites include Don Music, Forgetful Jones, and Sherlock Hemlock, and I'll admit the Miami Mice were attractive characters even before I knew they were a parody (indeed, when I saw my first Sesame Street Live show in 1986, the Mice were the characters I was most disappointed weren't in the show).

never saw one episode..(i don't think). but i think it's great how this children's show is still on and successful. i did see and own the movie FOLLOW THAT BIRD.
