Always looking to fill my head with useless information, so I was curious what everyone is giving out this year, and approximately how many kids do you get each year?
* I always give out pop (Pepsi for the big kids, Orange Crush for the little ones) and a small chocolate bar and a few candy to go with it. Typically get 60-80 kids each year.

Halloween is very different in the US than the UK. Here it's something a few kids do if they feel like it. It seems much much bigger in the US.

Where i live the Trick or Treaters would only end up getting mugged, So you don't really see any. To be fair its not really celebrated much in the Uk though, seems like its a Wicked time of the year in the US.

It's amazing that considering its origins, it never became more important over here. When you take into account the sheer number of British people with Irish ancestry.
Having said that, I don't think they take it as seriously in Ireland as they did in the past.

We are in full tilt Halloween mode here! Adult Halloween parties have already started, storm clouds in the skies, six days of overcast and rain already, the wind is just ripping the leaves from the trees and I absolutely love it. No better time to get in mood and curl up for some scary movies!
Here it is a steady stream of ghosts, goblins, witches and superheroes taking from us handfulls of miniature candy bars and the like. I do like the idea of cans of soda. They now have those mini-cans of pepsi, mountain dew, etc. What better way to give those little ones and extra boost of sugar as their parents try to get them to go to sleep?! It's a bit absurd when you think about it...kids typically collect their candy in a pillow case, and by the end of the evening, can hardly carry it. I remember as a kid coming home and dumping our stash in the middle of the floor and looking at the giant mountain of junk food. It would be scary if a company actually took a full pillow case full of candy and determined the amount of calories. I'm thinking a group of dentists may have started this whole trick or treating business! Hmmmm...and we wonder why our kids are getting chuckier and chunkier. That being said....if a bunch of health nuts started boycotting Halloween...I'd sick my dog on them! * Actually don't have a dog...but four cats can be scary too! I bought one of those giant bags with Sweet Tarts and stuff like that. We get about 30 kids or so in my neighborhood. Thank goodness I don't live in one of those phony wanna-be-rich neighborhoods where it is nothing but kids. Those homes would get 200-300 kids. I know cuz my friend lives in one of them. I would have to be a Grinch and not give out candy, just because I don't have any kids, and get enough disrespect because of it. I don't know how people can afford to spend $100's on candy for Halloween, yet they can't pay their gas or electric bills. Anyhoo, when we were kids, we did the same as you did kevdug- we dumped our loot onto the living room floor, and made trades if one of us had something we didn't like. But my Mother would dole out the candy only a little at a time, and by Christmas she threw away whatever remained. That is how we stayed skinny I guess LOL!

halloween is my favorite holiday has been since i was little and when we moved in this house it was great we would have alot of little kids from the neighborhood and go thru 4-5 bags of candy but as the years went buy fewer and fewer came they moved away etc. in the last 4 years it has gotten real bad hardly any kids and the ones we do get are too old to trick or treat and carry a garbage bag and no masks or anything so we go to our friends for a party and a bonfire and give kids candy there in the driveway lol alot of fun though!!

We don't get alot of kids here either so I give out fruit roll ups and those chewy gronla bars. I know they aren't as healthy as a nice Apple but I kind of think it is better than a candy bar. And the kids around here seem to like them.

We usually get less than ten kids so we usually give out big candy bars. This year we bought a big bag of mixed candy and are gonna fix up treat bags.
My school does Trunk or Treat, which is where the kids dress up and go out trick or treating in the parking lot (hence the "trunk" part). We're not supposed to give out candy or any other "unhealthy" treats, but hell, it's Halloween!! So guess who went to Sam's and got a big bag of candy for the occassion.... It's hit or miss where I live. Last year I had about 20 kids. I had 40 the year before. It really depends on the weather and if they bus them in or not. That's right, parents actually put kids in vans and bring them to "other" neighborhoods. I don't like it. Either way, I always buy a bunch of good candy bars, peanut butter cups etc... i don't give out candy because i go out on halloween. we are taking kids trick or treating and of course, we dress up so... but there are LOTS of kids that trick or trick where i live. and the neighbors decorate their lawns with blow up characters and lights. it's really nice.

We are giving out Junior Mints, Peanut M&Ms and Caramel Apple Taffy. There is a neighborhood near here that has 300 kids. One family gives out hot dogs and pop besides candy in that neighborhood.

Halloween isn't a holiday. And certainly not followed in the uk (to the annoyance of the gift and card industry) to the extent the us guys seem to indulge.
I don't give anything, cos we get older kids that just want either a sugar rush or trouble. Basic rule - if you are old enough to go out without adult supervision, you're too old.
