So...what do you guys think about the cost of gas?

You know what is freaking me out...is the crime that is going to start happening over it.

I could not believe this happened....

Yesterday....I had an orthodontist appointment...my orthodontist is about a 1 1/2 hour drive from where I live now...it is in the town I use to live in for almost 11 years. So, I know the area, and it's a very small town, and a nice community.

When my son and I pulled in to the parking lot, there were 2 camera crews at the church that was right next to my orthodontist....they had the whole church taped off with police tape. When I went inside the building, I asked everyone what happened. They said a man shot the janitor of the church at 6am yesterday morning. They said he had gotten away.....they did find him yesterday afternoon hiding out in a state park...

people said that he was trying to steal copper piping....how on earth can someone be willing to commit murder for some copper piping?

The janitor is in critical condition.

I think that the economy right now is in such horrible shape...that people are scared, and stuff like this is starting to happen.

I had to drive by the news crew to get off the street...so I could have been on Tv last night- cause they were filming when I went by...

I just couldn't believe the whole thing.

I think these crazy gas prices are what's snowballing everything else.

What do you guys pay for gas where you live?

It is about $3.95 a gallon here.

$4.50 (minimum) in Sacramento.

I guess it's more than that in San Francisco, and in the Los Angeles area.

Taking currency rates into consideration, here in the UK it's pushing ELEVEN DOLLARS a gallon.

I somehow have less sympathy for you lot than maybe I should have....

Stealing copper piping has absolutely nothing to do with gas prices. Theft of metal mainly copper is a nationwide epidemic usually by meth-heads. They can get a decent return on selling the stolen scrap metal in which they buy their meth or crack.

Californians always get screwed more than the rest of the country because they have higher gas taxes. That just sucks!

As you (and other Europeans) know this is because your government(s) REALLY screws you on gasoline (Petrol) and diesel taxes. In your case though, it's always been this way. Because of this, you drive smaller more fuel efficient cars, the majority of them diesel (I think). This is just starting to catch on here in the U.S. but it will take quite a while for it to take hold. This is due mostly to corporate greed of course. Because the corporations are trying to "squeeze" every penny out of us they can before building more fuel efficient cars, we are now in this predicament. Our government knew this was coming back in the 70s when Nixon tried to implement fuel efficiency mandates that got brushed under the rug. It's all about big money interests, payoffs, and, lining your own pockets at the expense of the little guy. It's this mentality that is ruining this country.

This has been a big problem here in Kansas City for a couple of years now. They are only now passing new laws that require the recycling companies to record drivers licenses, addresses and other pertinent information. Gee, it only took city hall 2 years to do it! -

Thankfully, we have a place like this to come to so we can vent about it... -

Well.....I never heard of anyone ever stealing copper like that ever...but then as soon as I heard about him, my mom told me she has seen 2 men that were walking around our neighborhood...who were carrying copper piping.

I do think that the gas situation is going to have a huge snowball effect and lots of crime will start happening....my friend had her car tampered with the other night...someone tried to pry in to her gas tank.

I honestly think so many things are connected.

There was an article a couple weeks ago in the Bismarck paper where the police say that there have been more people driving off from the gas stations without paying for their gas. So that part is true. Just wanted to give you the info on the copper piping and how it's connection to the meth heads.

Hey Bandit....I had a foreign exchange student from Norway when I was in high school...another Rewinder from Norway tracked him down for me a few years ago....he's a doctor now. But, I could never get my email to go through to him, and I never got to talk to him again. Bummer.

He could be your neighbor...

We are currently paying the highest fuel prices ever in Australia, $1.61/litre, which converts to around $6 per gallon.

I thought we had it pretty bad, but compared to the rest of the world (except the USA), we are doing ok!

Looks like centuries later, we’re having ourselves another invasion of Vikings.
Only, this time… they are friendly. [Wink]
No seriously, I noticed a few newer people are from Scandinavian countries, like: Norway, Denmark and Finland.

It’s nice to see people from other parts of the world than the more obvious English speaking countries.

when i found out what people in europe are paying for gas ..i felt a bit grateful [Frown] i couldn't imagine paying double what we pay already. but it still sucks that prices went up well over a dollar since a year ago. sheesh!
here in phoenix, the gas goes up and down between $4.09 to $4.16 (depending on where you go).
there is a plus to this though, there's less people on the road!! [Smile] and it makes my commutes much better!

No offense, but as soon as I saw that Viking ship painting, I immediately thought of the Monty Python "Spam" routine. It's where a table of Vikings start singing the "Spam" song. [Smile]

It could be argued that the Scandinavians discovered US first. In fact i think my grand grand grand grand father left a piece of land with my name on it.I just need to work "the invasion of the USA" into my schedule one of these days [Wink] For you StevenHW,who appreciate monty python ,i could always bring along a "norewgian blue" very cheap just for you [Big Grin] For those who didn`t get the joke, look it up on the youtube.Pretty funny stuff.

The gas is very expensive over here, and i just barely can afford my small mazda 323.That Trans Am will forever be just a dream.. [Roll Eyes]

Be well.

BTW 80'sRocked.Nice image. My grand grand grand grand father is number 3 from the left [Big Grin]

Perhaps one thing they could try is to phase out premium blends, which no one uses anymore anyway. With only regular and diesel on the market, that should bring those prices down somewhat.

Unless the Israelis and Iranians decide to go for each others' throats and refuse to let go, I think the next 18 months might be the worst of the crisis. By then oil from the big deep well strike in the Gulf a few years back and the oil we're digging up in North Dakota should be on the market, and car dealers are projected to begin releasing electric cars in 2010. I've also heard that in the next 5 years we might make a large breakthrough on molecular creating, which could eventually allow food and fuel to be created in labs. So I think if we just hold on long enough we'll all get through this relatively intact.

Last week the CSIRO (our governmental boffins) announced that unless the government started doing something about alternate fuel sources, we could hit $8 per litre in 10 years!

From what I hear Iceland's already at that threshhold; thus, they're looking into using power from volcanic deposits as a possibility.
