The announcement came from the Jim Henson Company yesterday that the characters will be brought to the big screen. The script, which reportedly will have the characters heading off into Outer Space, will be written by Ahmet Zappa (ordinarily they'd probably go to Jerry Juhl, but having been dead for the last year, he's quite unavailable at the moment); Brian and Lisa Henson will serve as producers. A release date is not yet finalized.
And what do I think? In this instance I'll reserve judgment until I see more of where they're heading. I'm a little more comfortable knowing the Henson family will be directing its course, although it would be more comforting if Henson himself were still here to do it along with Juhl. Still, putting the characters in Outer Space does have much potential, even if we'd probably sacrifice the rest of the Rock's denizens in the process, and since at least half of the performers would be almost certain to return there should be a sense of some continuity from the series itself. Stay tuned; I'll post more as info becomes available.

Hey I would be in the market for a movie like this. I think that the kids today would love the Fraggles. I hope that this pans out.
