I was lucky enough to get a rare unedited copy of this over the summer. I fell in love with it when it first aired as a 5 year old, and even today I still consider it the very best the Muppets ever were and probably ever will be. How can you not love a special that includes:

-the great running gag with everyone coming into Fozzie's mother's farmhouse slipping on the icy patch

-Rowlf and Sprocket greeting each other in Dogese

-Gonzo going at it with the Christmas turkey when the latter hits on Camilla

-the characters watching the Muppet Babies holiday film, which sadly gets deleted on most video releases because someone didn't clear the rights to "Santa Claus is Coming to Town"

-the Sesame Street Christmas Pageant, featuring Bert in drag and Grover as the mouse making perfectly clear that he's not stirring ("Note how the hand never touches the spoon.")

-Piggy pushing her taxi through the snow trying to get back to the farmhouse

-the Swedish Chef trying to cook Big Bird for Christmas dinner

-Kermit and Robin going down the Fraggle hole in the basement to meet you-know-who

-eight minutes of the characters all singing a wonderful collection of Christmas carols

-the cameo at the end by Jim Henson that only becomes more poignant and meaningful with passing years

And countless more memorable moments that show why Jerry Juhl was one of the 20th century's best writers. I wish someday it'll be back on television in its complete form, for it's a fitting memorial to the magic we knew long ago.

Who else loves this special as much as I do?

Devolution here,

What year is this from? I saw the one that came out in 93, but that was the Muppet Christmas Carol if I recall correctly.

I love the muppet christmas carol.Just hilarious from start to finish, plus an excellent christmas movie.
And judging by the very poor selection of stuff on UK terrestrial tv over the festive period, its pretty much the only decent christmas movie on.
No national lampoons christmas vacation,
no scrooged with bill murray...
And the worst channel as always.....BBC1.
Crap crap crap

Are we on the same channel? What I brought up was A Muppet Family Christmas, not the Muppet Christmas Carol--an honest mistake no doubt, though, given how many holiday specials they had over the years. THe one I mean is the one where every major Muppet character ever made spends Christmas Eve at Fozzie's mother's farmhouse in the country, including the Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock Gang.

It just wouldn't be Christmas without them, with almost a dozen well-done specials over the years.
