A few of my friends were talking about this and they really regret that they got rid of their vinyl when it was pretty well useless. Now I am actually seeing used record stores almost getting rid of their cd stock and putting the majority of their stock in vinyl. I remember I bought a lot of 80's vinyl around 1999-2003 and I am extremely fortunate I paid as little as I did. Still have a lot of tapes too, maybe that is the next revival?

I always saw the potential the vinyl had, even in the time when cd dominated. I´ve always loved the big cover art and everything and never got rid of any lp´s.

I never got rid of any records. They take up minimal space since they are stored in our vintage 70s console stereo with record player and 8track player that mom and dad gave to us. Still have 8 tracks also and even buy 1 once in a great while. My wonderful father passed last year and he had some records stored. I found some Dr Demento albums in his collection and cheech n chong also among other artists.

Vinyl used to be the cheapest way for me to get a song and album at a garage sale instead of paying a fortune for an expensive cd. Now I am finding that certain vinyl reissues are almost as expensive and more as those cd's. I also find that vinly can't compete with the extras and bonus tracks that are compiled on a cd. I have seen some, but they are like a $100+ vinyl box set of sorts. I will play a vinyl record of a classic album, but will kind of get an empty feeling where I knew the extra tracks were missing. Also, the non-existence of playing records in a car is also an issue. My biggest gripe with cd's is their fragile state. I take care of them, but I always find weird scratches and even cracks in some of them. I paid like quite a bit for a rare cd of Sheffield band Artery and to my horror I looked at the cd one day and there was a nasty crack making it unplayable. I guess there are pros and cons with every format. But I kind of pine for the days when vinyl was a poor man's treasure.

It's ironic that CD's were initially marketed on their durability - almost unbreakable was the implication. Yet vinyl is what keeps going even with scratches and damage.

I got rid of some of my stuff, but kept a lot.

I started getting into music in the late '80's, and by that time vinyl, though still around, wasn't as popular - due to the onset of CD's (and to a lesser extent, music cassettes). So, I never had many vinyl records to begin with.

Have to strongly disagree that vinyl are more durable that CD's. What I remember about vinyls was that they were always getting scratched - once that needle hit the record itself (which was the only way it would play), it had the potential to scratch it up. The vinyls I remember sounded terrible & in many cases unlistenable because of this.

Yes, CD's can scratch as well (as can DVD's). However, if you take good care of a CD, put it back in it's case when you're finished with this, etc. it should not scratch (too much).

I didn't replace my vinyl....I just bought cds and had doubles. I feel sorry for kids these days. They have no idea of the fun of listening to a full LP or cd, looking at the graphics, reading liner notes and lyrics, etc. But then again, I'm an old man so what do I know!! LOL

I never had a vinyl collection. My parents and older sisters did though. But by the time I hit my pre-teens and really started getting into music on my own, it was the early 90's and vinyls were pretty much extinct at that point. I did have a pretty huge cassette collection though.
