I'm having a Halloween party next weekend, so I'm trying to put together a playlist of Halloweenish/spooky music, mostly from the 80's. Here is what I have so far:

1. Behind the Mask - Alice Cooper
2. Teenage Frankenstein - Alice Cooper
3. Don't fear the reaper - Blue Oyster Cult
4. Lullaby - The Cure
5. Dead Man's Party - Oingo Boingo
6. Black Celebration - Depeche Mode
7. Dream Warriors - Dokken
8. Cry little sister - Gerard McMann
9. Devil Inside - INXS
10. Halloween theme - John Carpenter
11. Sweet Dreams - Marilyn Manson
12. Thriller - Michael Jackson
13. Down by the Water - PJ Harvey
14. Voo Doo - Rachel Sweet
15. How soon is now - The Smiths
16. Psycho Killer - Talking Heads
17. Eaten by the monster of love - Sparks
18. Don't Come Around Here No More - Tom Petty
19. Time Warp - Rocky Horror Picture Show

Any other ideas?

First all Veronica.. I freakin' love your list of tunes. I'll be borrowing a few of those to play on my boombox for the trick 'r treaters on Halloween night.

Here's a few:

Nightmares - A Flock of Seagulls
Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne
Halloween - Siouxsie and the Banshees
Scary Monsters - David Bowie
Ghost Town - The Specials
Werewolves of London - Warren Zevon
Bad Moon Rising - CCR
Welcome to my Nightmare - Alice Cooper

These might be considered overplayed, but I still enjoy them:

The Haunted House of Rock - Whodini
Nightmare on my street - DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince

Concrete Blonde is awesome! I've never heard of at least half of those tunes Pyro, but I'll definitely check them out.

Hey Veronica.. is your Halloween bash going to include a "Candyman" filming locations drive-by?

Awesome suggestions, guys! Another one I need to add is "Killing Moon" by Echo and the Bunnymen.

Valley, I actually drove past what's left of Cabrini Green in Chicago, a.k.a. Candyman territory a few weeks ago. That area is still super scary!! Definitely not a place you want to stop and take pics at (I did snap a couple on my cell as we were driving by though, I will post them on the Candyman movie thread).

And no one's mentioned the Ghostbusters theme yet? That certainly fits the bill; indeed, it is a staple of the town's annual Halloween parade here.

Ronnie, I love your thread & I love your list, as well as all the awesome suggestions here. I'm trying to put together a Halloween Mix myself for a party & there's a few on here I missed! This is one of the million reasons why the Rewind rocks!!

Here's a few you might want to add:

Time of the Season-The Zombies
Somebody's Watching Me-Rockwell
All On Our Own-Bobby Brown (from Ghostbusters II)
Love Will Tear Us Apart-Joy Division (the creepiness of the lead singer's voice alone will scare ya)
Flesh For Fantasy-Billy Idol (somehow fits)

P.S. Love the PJ Harvey "Down By The Water" addition...wow...haven't thought about that song since 95'

Here's a non-obvious candidate unless you are a real horror film buff: "Eyes Without a Face" by Billy Idol. It is named after and based upon the greatest French horror film ever, Georges Franju's 1960 classic, "Les Yeux Sans Visage" ("Eyes Without a Face"). I'm going back two decades for this forum, but since it's an all-time favorite, I'll always give it a plug, especially around Halloween. :-) If you really like horror films and have never seen this gorgeously filmed and shockingly violent film (a Martin Scorsese favorite and imitated so many times), then seek out the beautiful Criterion DVD.

Also--while I'm here--how about Kate Bush's 1978 cut "Hammer Horror," the brilliant tribute song to England's greatest horror studio?

And one more: "Self Control" (1984) recorded by Laura Branigan and with a music video directed by William Friedkin who directed great films like "The Exorcist." The video, an homage to Mario Bava's seminal 1964 giallo film "Sei Donne Per L'Assassino" (a/k/a "Blood and Black Lace"), was heavily censored by MTV back in the day.

Pyromantic, you have some kewl choices in The Goblins' theme from "Suspiria" (love, love, love that movie) and a Bauhaus track.

Thanks Crash...might I add "Self Control" is a great pick on your end, espeicially from a video standpoint...definetly among one of the more memorable music videos.

Yeah..I've always dug the theme music to Suspiria...even though the film itself has lost some of it's edge and flair for me over the years, and I'd no longer hold it up among my favorites in the genre...I would still however hold that theme by the Goblins up among my favorite horror movie themes.

And back to the topic at hand...I'd like to add that pretty much anything from the bands Type o Negative and Angelwitch would make for good additions as well.

On the topic of DJ JJ & FP: Then She Bit Me FTW!

Anyway, Mercyful Fate [sic] and King Diamond are two bands with a pretty Halloween-ish sound. Though their vocalist...well, his high singing is definitely an acquired taste. It adds to the mood, though!

Secret .. is that tune you'll be playing when we show up at the "Private School"? I prefer Vanity 6 while I'm hanging out with Jordan, but since it's Halloween I guess we can check out the showers instead.

This is 10 thousand miles away from my regular cup of tea, however, I work with teenagers and a while back, one of the kids had Rammstein's album "Mutter" and would often play it when we went for drives in the car....it initially almost made me cry, but for some unknown reason, it gradually started to grow on me. I've not heard any other albums or songs from the group, but this one was backed by a full score orchestra, I believe....and....it was creepy cool! I don't recall the exact tracks that were the creepiest, but well worth a listen....

"He's Back" by Alice Cooper pays homage to Mr Voorhees...and even includes the creepy....chee chee chee haa haa haa haunt! Also sings "Welcome To My Nightmare".

My son is a "Just Dance" maniac on the Wii, and on part 2, his favorite song to dance to is "Monster Mash"...always a classic.
