I am listening to Run DMC's "You Talk Too Much"...haha I love this song, but haven't heard it in a long time. The radio station here is doing an old school rap jam tonight.
I have always liked my boys..the beastie boys and some NWA songs of the past, although I am not in to gangsta rap.
What are some other good old school rap songs of the 80s? I like the rap songs used in Breakin movies, and Disorderlies with The Fat Boys.
Another one I heard tonight on the radio, is a song called "Friends." I don't know who sings it, but that is a cool song. And I recognized the tune that was sampled and used from this song, in Nas's "If I Ruled The World" feat. Lauren Hill of the Fugees. Who sings that?

Cool topic Ronnie. As you know I recently started collecting vintage boomboxes.. and what does one have to play on these? Old school rap of course! I absolutely love all of the older hip hop stuff while on the other hand I don't like newer artists like Eminem, Snoopy Dog and so on. There are exceptions like for instance Puff Daddy's Come With Me. Though I'm not sure if that's considered rap?
Anyway.. My favorites among the older rappers would be: Afrika Bambaata, Public Enemy, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, Schooly-D, Run-DMC and the earlier stuff from the Beastie Boys. Actually I just finished making some compilation TAPES to play on these ghetto blasters. They aren't ALL rap songs. Some are instrumental and some are just songs I like from popular breakdance movies like Beat Street, Breakin', and Wild Style. These are a few that I personally like very much..

Also, I know that Rapper's Delight is so way overplayed, but I thought The Sugar Hill Gang rocked that song out and helped make rap main stream.
I used to play it over and over as a kid trying to learn all the words to it.

i've always been a fan of TOO SHORT, who started in the 80s, but is known more in the 90s and today. i am going to a concert in 2 weeks, a freestyle explosion show, and sugar hill gang will be there. shannon's give me tonight was always an awesome song, as i have recently put it on a mixed cd that i play constantly.

cool, valley. i remember being in the 6th grade and taking a trip to flagstaff, az with some of my classmates and our teacher let us listen to the entire SHORT DOG'S IN THE HOUSE tape. (mr. bowman took a liking to the song, "the ghetto." )
i am not a puff daddy/p diddy fan but i do like the song TKO mentioned, but i think it's called SENORITA...(come with me).
i actually like east coast rap, like wu-tang & bone thugs n harmony. i will listen to almost everything those 2 groups put out.
i was checking out some ice-t songs earlier and ya reckless is cool, but i also like the song he did for the movie "new jack city" (90s, i know), called "new jack hustler." it's a funky tune.

I liked early Beastie Boys (I still love them now), Run DMC, Young MC and Tone Loc. The last two were pretty main stream, late 80's but I love "Wild Thing", "Funky Cold Medina" and "Bust a Move".

I like old-school rap music (I wrote the page on "Krush Groove") but I'm not a full-on rap music fan.
I'm white and I consider most white people who listen to rap music to be...well, white. (I would use a more vulgarian term, but I'm learned my lessons regarding those).
I think that most of us who post on this board are white people, so ipso facto, we have no rhythm or soul. When we're in public and we dance and sing to any type of rap music (old or new), we all look stupid, foolish...and white.
Don't worry...I consider myself these things as well.

Ronnie that is totally hilarous, I saw the exact same concert with C & C Music Factory and Ricky "Can't Buy Me Love" Gerardo. They played at Kings Island in the 80's. It was actually a great concert, everyone was dancing in the aisles.

We are including Soul to Soul in old school rap now??? Dance music maybe but old school rap, no. Tony Tone Toni had a rap part in "It Feels good" but that is by no way a rap song.
