Watched the original Footloose on Sunday. Still a good movie. I liked the commentary by Kevin Bacon. Wish they had gotten a few of the other cast members in on that. =)

i watched another flick the other day atomik starring mark harmon, had been wanting to watch this one for an age and finally got to see it - worth winning from 1989.
really enjoyed this one where harmon as a womanising tv weather man takes on a bet from his pals that he can't get 3 women to agree to become engaged to him within a set amount of time.
no real major belly laughs but still plenty of amusing moments where harmon has to juggle between the 3 women whilst not getting caught out.
also stars madeleine stowe (blink,stakeout).

Dumb but fun Police Academy rip-off. From the same director as Screwballs and Loose Screws.

in my oppinion easily the worst of the 3 sequels, didn't dislike part 2, though it does pale in comparison to spielbergs original it still had the great roy schieder returning as police chief brody plus the odd suspenseful scene.
i know jaws 3 was no classic but i think it's still superior to part 4 which to be honest is a bit of a stinker.
even the great michael caine can't save the day.
very poor.

just watched my new dvd of 1983 pyschological slasher double exposure starring michael callan, seymour cassel and cleavon little.
michael callan plays a photographer adrian wilde who has vivid nightmares about brutally killing the female models he works with.
troubles start for him when the models he's dreamt about killing turn up dead, the fact that he's told all to his pyschiatrist(seymour cassel) doesn't help his cause either and now the finger of suspicion points towards him.
this is a terrific early 80s slasher/thriller with a great central performance from michael callan as the photographer who's slowly going over the edge, also features some stunning camera work with great shots of the l.a freeways and the surrounding areas.
very sleazy in tone it features an abundance of nudity and violence, some of the murders are quite disturbing, notably the scene where the female model has the bag with the rattlesnake put over her head .
released by scorpion dvd for the first time ever in its original widescreen scope the picture quality is a massive step up from my old fuzzy uk thorn emi vhs tape.
highly recomended to any slasher/thriller fans out there.

There actually was a time I thought this movie was so bad, it was sorta good...But now, it's so bad it's just....BAD! However, Kurt Fuller's over the top performance as the corporate sleazebag in this film is still priceless though..lol.

I recently watched the 1984 made for tv movie "Why Me?" starring Glynnis O'Connor and Armand Assante.
True story about Leola Mae Harmon, an airforce nurse, who's beautiful face is horribly disfigured after a bad car crash. Assante plays Dr. James Stallings.. who becomes very passionate and dedicated to her case, and begins to reconstruct her face through a long series of surgeries. Through the process, Harmon struggles with her personal life but gains motivation of returning to work as a nurse. With the help and determination of Dr. Stallings, her recovery is extraordinary. The heartbreaking moment of when Leola sees herself for the first time after the accident, is tough to take.. so sad. But the movie ends with a success and wins you over with it's love story.
Armand Assante is terrific as the doctor, and oh so handsome!
I was able to record this one on cable years back.. I believe it was on an Encore station. But the movie hasn't aired on tv in forever. I don't know if it's available to purchase?
If you can, check it out, it's a doozy but sweet, sweet story!

Directed by Willian Friedkin (The French Connection & The Exorcist). Al Pacino plays detective Steve Burns and is sent into the urban gay scene to try to identify a serial killer.
Some great New York scenes such as Morningside Park which I believe is used in The Warriors (1979) too. Perhaps some people may find this film disturbing due to some of its themes but if you can look past that it is quite a unique movie.

I wasn't too crazy about the dvd though. William Friedkin decided to artificially color-tint the movie. Apparently he did the same thing to The French Connection's blu-ray version.
The results of the Cruising dvd may not be as disasterous as The French Connection re-vision, but i still prefer the original version though.
A cool two-part retrospective documentary and a Friedkin audio-commentary are also on the dvd.

Seeing it on the old gritty VHS tape is the only way to go. Same with certain movies like The Warriors. It seems so much better on VHS. Did you see what Walter Hill done to the DVD version of The Warriors. Threw in comic book scene transitions and made it unwatchable.

I agree guys, Cruising is a good movie. Why these directors want to ruin the dvd and blu-ray releases, i can´t explain.

It would be good to have a bit of a discussion about Cruising but don't want to spoil it for those who have not seen it.
Yeah, fantastic directors that have fantastically stupid dvd releases. What are they thinking?

Ended the Madonna week with this good but forgotten little film. The movie is based on four Damon Runyon stories and set in 1928 new years eve. I loved the all-star cast:
Madonna, Jennifer Grey, Matt Dillon, Rutger Hauer, Randy Quaid, Anita Morris, Julie Hagerty, Esai Morales and Josef Sommer. And all the familiar faces among the supporting cast: Alan Ruck, Fisher Stevens, Steve Buscemi etc. etc.
Madonna duet with Jennifer Grey, gangsters, gamblers and beautiful women. Check it out!
"A rafting party is terrorised during a trip down the river. The villains are local woodcutters, disgruntled by the fact that their factory is to be closed down. (IMDb)
This was a decent Deliverance style made-for-tv adventure thriller directed by Jerry Jameson. Starring:
Men: Robert Urich, Paul Burke and Joel Higgins. Pretty ladies: Lee Purcell and Deborah Raffin. Hicks: George DiCenzo, Brion James and Mitch Carter.
Great Oregon locations, cool river rafting sequences and nice early 80s feel.
